About Us

The Background

I discovered the passion of quilting in the late 90's. I started small but then that passion led to many quilt tops but not as many finished quilts. I soon learned about Gammill longarms and purchased one. I finished many of the quilts that I had been working on, then I started to help others finish their quilts. Word spreads quickly when you have a longarm and soon I was very busy. That's when Windswept Quilters Studio came into existence.

I learned of a new quilting technique called Square in a Square and became a certified teacher. I was also certified in teaching Marcie Baker's method of quilting. I taught at quilt guilds and quilt shops. As my own fabric stash grew, I started buying by the bolt instead of the yard. I quickly outgrew our house, then our barn, and then another out-building. When a former daycare facility in town became available, we bought it and converted it into a quilting studio.

Windswept Quilter's Studio

We converted a former daycare facility into my dream quilting studio. I do my own sewing there as well as teach classes and host open-sew times. The facility has been wonderful and has a great layout. In addition to a large room for displaying fabrics and notions, there is also a large classroom for teaching and gatherings. There is also another room for my original Gammill longarm and the new computerized Gammill that we recently purchased. The building has 5 bathrooms which is such a convenience. There is a full kitchen with a dining area. It has become the social center that I envisioned years ago. It is a dream come true for me and I enjoy spending time there.

We have added classes for knitting and crocheting, and I plan to add other things like charity sewing, sewing classes for children, and weaving. The dream is still growing and I am blessed to be able to share it with others. Come and join us. Whether you are completely new to quilting, or have been doing it for years, all are welcome!
